Yellowstone Schools began with a small group of individuals who recognized a need in Houston’s Third Ward community and decided to act. Explore the timeline below to see how God has developed Yellowstone Schools into the school it is today!
Our History
2002
After a year of planning, Yellowstone opened to 64 PreK students at Lilly Grove Baptist Church on Yellowstone Road. We added a grade each school year to reach 8th grade.
2006
Purchased the Douglass Elementary school building from HISD in 2006 and completed gym construction in 2009, moving forward debt-free.
Yellowstone Schools inspire, empower, and invest in students to achieve their highest potential and fulfill their intended purpose.
2012
Yellowstone Schools celebrated its first graduating class of 8th graders in 2012. Four years later, 92% of those 8th graders graduate from high school.
2018
Launched “Yellowstone College Prep” in August 2018, becoming the first public/private hybrid of its kind in Texas, with the vision of serving students through high school.
We believe all students are born with purpose and destined for success.
2021
In the midst of the pandemic, the Board approves a $30M campaign for post-pandemic academic recovery, expanded facilities, and a PreK-12th-grade vision.
2022
Celebrated Yellowstone’s 20th anniversary. Construction for the new building is finished, doubling our campus footprint.
2023
Welcomed the 9th grade class as the first phase of Yellowstone’s high school plan. Dr. Mosley becomes the superintendent.
2024-2026
Yellowstone added a high school grade each year through 2026 to fulfill our vision of providing a life-changing experience to 750 students in PreK-12th grade.
