A Year in Athletics: 2025-2026

This past school year was an exciting year in athletics at Yellowstone Schools! Not only were competition and engagement levels at an all-time high, but this was the very first time in Yellowstone’s history that varsity sports were offered, and students rose to meet the challenge.

Students view being on a varsity team as an honor, taking ownership of their roles and holding each other accountable. They helped one another stay on track with their grades so that no one fell behind, and encouraged and challenged each other to levels they didn’t know they could reach.

“Stepping out of your comfort zone—that’s what athletics is all about,” says Tremayne Johnson, Yellowstone’s athletic director. “When students are challenged to learn a new skill or a new technique, they build essential motivation and discipline, and begin to realize that they are, in fact, capable of growing.” And this growth leads to confidence—not only in the sports they play, but also in their academic careers and personal lives.

Mr. Johnson says the best part of this year was seeing the joy in both the students and the coaches: “We’re building something real here, and it’s beautiful to see.”
